Help Us Restore Funding for After School Programs

Dear Students, Faculty, Parents, and CAS Community,
You may already be aware— Governor Malloy’s proposed budget ELIMINATES funding for the state-funded after school grant that CAS currently receives. Since 2010, this grant has enabled us to grow Co-Op’s after school offerings from just 5 programs to over 40 programs per semester! Approximately 50% of the student body participates in CAS—which allows this huge portion of Co-Op’s student body to explore arts, make new friends, build skills, and become engaged members of our after school community. In fact, many students report that CAS is one of the main reasons they come to school.
Without this funding, the future of CAS—as well as all state-funded after school programs in the entire state of Connecticut—is up in the air.
But we can take action. We are encouraging ALL of our after school supporters—current students, teachers, Co-Op alums, CAS instructors, parents, or community partners—to share with your legislators what after school programming has meant to you, and how it has impacted your children and/or students.
Already, many members of the CAS community have sent in letters of support and we ask you to do the same. Please see below for more information and how to get involved.
As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Kjerstin Pugh

“CAS has shown me what Co-Op can really be when the student body puts their mind to it. All students who attend Co-Op are artists—thanks to these programs and clubs, students can express themselves more than others expect them to.”
